Hot, sweaty, gazing sun - the temperatures in Sweden right now are around the 30-something mark, so when my friend and I flew three hours south down to Mallorca - the weather conditions felt very much the same. Something that felt very different from home though, was everything else. As a first timer on the island I am amazed by so much and already feel like I want to go back and explore more. Soon!
With that said, we have managed to do and see loads - but one experience that I didn't expect to like as much as I did? Spending a day at a beach club. I know, I know - laying on an overpriced sunbed might sound boogie, that was my initial thought, but it came to be a very relaxing day. We're talking 10 plus dips in the pool, podcast listening, great food and accidental naps on my sunbed. I imagined myself being bored after two hours, but time flew by and before I knew it - it was early evening.
We rolled in around 10.30 and the place was surpsingly empty. It actually felt kind of nice to arrive before everyone else, we got to really apreciate the place before it filled up. Becuase, yes, it did. So, you cannot show up without having a reservation during high season - some people came and hoped to get a sunbed for the day, but were turned down - there simply wasn't any room to spare.
I booked our beds, facing the ocean, a few weeks ahead of our trip - I made the booking online here. We chose the PuroBeach club just south of Palma, but they also have another location on the island: Illetas. We payed €70 each, which felt pricey when we payed, but turned out to be so worth it after all! You have access to the pool, changing rooms with showers, bathrooms and we were also welcomed with fresh fruit, mineral water and a glass of Cava.
In the early afternoon we felt peckish and wanted to order something "light" to eat. Firstly, we wanted to save ourselves for dinner, and secondly we expected it to be very pricey - hence why we wanted something light. The prices were very reasonable after all, so we decided on sharing the nacho plate and fish tacos. What we didn't really expect was the size of the portions. Needless to say, our little snack turned out to be a filling and very yummy lunch. Dinner had to wait!
So? We had a really great experience at PuroBeach in Palma. I would highly recommend a visit if you're on the island. If you go; try the frozen mint & passion fruit smoothie, it was to die for. And also, re-apply your sunscreen often. I mean loads! *speaking from experience*
